short

I have one more day of this, but it might be a lame day.

I have a ton of homework to do, and I just got home from the gym.
A friend convinced me to do this thing called exercise today, and it took up time gosh darn it.

I think this may be just a short note.
If I have time later, I will write a little more.
But I had kinda a bad day, so it will be dull and whiny.

So I leave you with a link to a project i am doing with some friends of mine.

Basically we have a journal and we pass it around and each create a page.
It is all sorts of fun. Look at it, then explore the rest of the site, it is a super cool project.

BEDA BUDDY BIRTHDAY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOPE!

Have some virtual cake for being a great BEDA buddy!

SOPHIE

The Formulas

AS CHALLENGED BY KATIE!

My MADE UP BAND!

I spent most of my evening at my Math Honor Society induction, so I am making a band called The Formulas

It is about all things nerd, but mostly in the form of math.

It will sound like a mixture of The Format (http://www.myspace.com/theformat), Danielle Ate the Sandwich (http://www.myspace.com/danielleatethesandwich), The Terrordactyls (http://www.myspace.com/theterrordactyls) and a number of my favorite show tunes.

It would feature a number of my friends playing a number of interments including: the bassoon, the oboe, the piano, the saxophone, the acoustic and electric guitar, the Celtic harp, the ukulele and the violin/fiddle.
I pick these instruments because they are all played by either me or my friends.
SO THIS COULD ACTUALLY HAPPEN

(except none of us can sing super well, but WE CAN TRY!)

Song titles on our first album, Sines of Madness, would include:

Show Me the Proof
Stuck in 7734 with 535006
Tangent to My Curves
Unit Circle Blues
360 Degrees
I am a Centroid (The old nerd song)
Pie are square
1+1=1 (love)

...

Well.
Now I have to go and do my actual math homework

I hope you enjoy it.
(the band, not my math homework)
I actually really like the idea, so it might actually happen?

SOPHIE

P.S. BEDA BUDDIES! Are you guys (well, gals) going to continue blogging after BEDA is over?

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

It has come to my attention...

...That these blogs are often filled with poor spelling and grammar, and i felt the need to apologize.
I really am a good writer normally, all my teachers say so.
I have fan club founded by my English teacher.
My papers and essays are littered with comments like, "you have a very developed voice" and "you are a fantastic writer."

But writing blogs is new for me, and I am hesitant to reread what I have written.
Stage fright perhaps.

I apologize for the poor grammar and weird spellings.
And the weird spacing; most of the time I write like I think.
Which involves lots of unnecessary
returns.

Feel free to tell me my mistakes, and I am going to try to start proof-reading these things.

SOPHIE

NOTE: Thank you for my darling mother for pointing out my failures, "Sophie, this kinda sucks--you need to learn what the difference between collage and college is and the different to's" (not a direct quote, but the general gist)

Heat

I just overheard my neighbor say, "How do you like living in Southern Florida?"

We live in Maryland.
Either he is very confused, OR IT IS WAY TOO HOT!
I am leaning towards the latter.
The Maryland weather is so weird; about two weeks ago it snowed, and today it was almost 90 degrees.

My day, in a song.

I PRESENT YOU WITH SOME LISTS
(if I had learned anything during BEDA it is I have a certain love for lists)

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT SUMMER:
1. Drinking iced tea.
2. Sitting outside in the shade with said iced tea and reading a book in a single sitting.
3. Sleeping.
4. Snowballs with marshmallow topping.
5. Walking to the library.
6. Hiking to the river and swimming.
7. Air conditioning.
8. The lack of school.
9. Flip Flops and going barefoot.
10. The pool.
11. The beach.
12. Family reunions in Maine.
13. Fresh tomatoes
14. Rehearsals in air conditioned theaters.
15. Staying up until ungodly hours of the night.

THINGS I HATE ABOUT SUMMER
1. Sun Burn.
2. Heat.
3. My father's insistence that we don't need air conditioning.
4. Class in 90 degree weather.
5. Swimsuits.
6. Having to work to keep up with friends.
7. Sticking to the seats in cars.
8. The need for people to be tan.
9. Long car rides and car sickness.
10. Window fans.
11. Swollen feet. Which I have now, but are apparently just temporary.
12. Summer homework.
13. Sweat.
14. Hotness.

As much as I have been complaining how much I hate summer/heat/sunshine, this list has reminded me that it isn't all that bad.

How is everyone else today?

old people

What is this?
I AM DOING MY BLOG BEFORE 11:30 AT NIGHT!

Today I discovered that I have a mad love for old people.
Usually they kinda creep me out and make me uncomfortable, becasue they always want to make awkward small talk.

I DO NOT LIKE SMALL TALK. I avoid it at all costs. I would rather sit in silence than "make small talk" (which is just a stupid phrase"

Small Talk Partner, "Hello"
You, "Hi."
STP, "How are you?"
You, "Well, and you?"
STP, "Pretty good."
You, "..."
STP, "Well, How is school going?"
You, "Good."
STP, "Well, thats good."
You, "..."
STP, "..."

This is what small talk is to me.
Pointless questions followed by pointless awkwardness.
I feel that some people create REAL conversations our of small talk, but with me that rarely happens. And when it does, I take it as a sign that the person I am talking to and I could be really good friends.

BUT BACK TO OLD PEOPLE

Small talk with old people is even worse than regular small talk, because they try to ask you questions that they feel are "good questions" for the "younger generation."
Mostly things along the lines of, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
WHICH IS NOT SOMETHING I LIKE TO THINK ABOUT IN MOST SITUATIONS!

But today, I helped out with my schools Senior Citizen Prom.
This mostly consisited of going to the grocery store way to many times and spending way to many times deciding if old people like chips or pretzels more (in case you were wondering, they liked the chips better), buying 6 cakes, making 834139412343413 pots of coffee, and watching old people be cute.

There were about 70 seniors from the community and local nursing homes and they were so precious. They told fun jokes, and liked our sub-par food, and put up with our cafeteria, which was around 100 degrees today.
AND THEY DANCED! They tangoed and waltzed and jitterbugged and electric slide-ed.
It was much better than the normal school dance, which consists of alcohol induced sleazy-ness, dresses that are way to short, and dancing that really shouldn't count as dancing.

It was really fun, and really nice to realize that old people actually like most young kids.
One told us that "Your parents have done a very good job raising you."

I MEAN, HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THAT!?

Well I have to shower, find something to eat, and do all the homework I have put off.
I CANNOT WAIT FOR SUMMER (except that whole hating the heat thing)

harrypotter?

"Harry Potter and his best friends, Ron Weasley™ and Hermione Granger™, are all members of Gryffindor, the house known for bravery, daring, nerve and chivalry."

Do they really have to trademark it?
ick.

my day, late.

OH MY GOSH!
I AM HOME SO LATE!
I AM SO SORRY!

THIS STILL COUNTS FOR THE 25th!

REALLY, IT DOES!

Today I did many things
I wore clothes.
I hung out with one of my best friends from middle school, who I haven't hung out with for a while.
I got told that I have a "very intense oder" about me (he ment aura, but couldn't figue it out).
I saw 17 Again, and other than it being quite chicle, I liked it a lot.
I mean, there was a man who wore elf-ears? HOW COULD I NOT LIKE IT!?
I went to the mall for three hours because the showing of 17 Again that we had planned on seeing was sold out.
I bought a very cute dress from H&M.
I bought 5 cakes, enough for over 100 people.
I bought 10 bags of chips.
I freaked out about where I was going to store such large amounts of food.
I went to a meeting about a production of Suessical that I am stage managing, and I am now super excited for the show.
I ate a yummy, yummy avocado sandwich for lunch.
I drank a slightly warm diet coke.

Life/death

I am terrified of the passing of time. Of the fact that someday, I will have to act as an actually functioning adult.
I will have to leave my house and go to college.
I will have to leave college to get a job.
I will mostly likely have to leave that job to get a new job.
I will have to continue this cycle of leaving what I know to move on until
I grow old and I die.

And that terrifies me.
I can complain about how much life sucks, but i only get one shot at it.
No re-dos.
No time travel.
No second chances.

I get one chance to get my life right.
And that is absolutely terrifying.

Cheer Up Letters

For the last week, I have been in an impressively bad mood.

Yesterday, to cheer me up, one of my friends (Laura) made me this card:

Sorry that you can't see the whole thing, it was too big for my scanner.
but the story says:

Once upon a time there was a girl named Sophie She had a pet rat that wasnamed Felix. This rat did not live in a cage. Cages are bad and Sophie was the biggest tree-hugger ever. Felix had a brother named moody who was pretty but and bit stupid. He was a rat model, and now he lives with Sophie's Far Mor and Far Far [her grandparents] She's happy that we is a vegetarian. Felix, however, is not They went to the park and had a picnic. ♥

That is why i love my friends.

In this card, she also gave me a hypothetical bag full of lovely things:
A pocket Asian
Cheese and crackers
A copy of Harry Potter
Some scissors

AWKWARD TRANSITION!

In other news, today was my envirothon competition and it went surprisingly well. We actually one first place for one of the categories, which is kind of a big deal.

The whole competition was suprisingly fun. It was wet and rainy, but we got to go exploring, we got to mesure trees and dead fish, and we got out of school.
For more information about the program: http://www.envirothon.org/

And here is a picture of my team (well, my schools two teams) in all of our awkwardness.

Skys Are Weird

DEAR UNCLE GREG
HELLO
NOW STOP THIS NONSENSE!

ONWARD!

I am so tired and I am having trouble creating complete sentances.

BEDA BUDDIES!
I HAVE A CHALLANGE FOR YOU!
Introduce yourselves in the comments.
I want to know everything about you that you feel comfortable releaseing on the internet.
NOW! (or later) (or never)

But onward.
Today, after dinner, the sky was doing odd things.
It was bright pink and there was a double rainbow.
And lightning.
It was the weirdest/coolest/most awe inspiring thing i had encountered in a while.

Here is a picture
Saddly, it does not do it justice.

In other news, I have a competition tomorrow for my Envirothon Team.
We are in no way prepared, and it is going to suck.

Wish me luck?

MUSIC

So about a year ago i published the following song list on another blog:

"1.Tire Swing, Kimya Dawson
So, officially i already had this song on my ipod. But, I love it lots and its from Juno which is the best movie in the world. I also really felt like it applied to my life. So here it is.
2. Pocketful of Sunshine, Natasha Bedingfield
I lied. Do not listen to this song. It is addicting, but not in a good way. If you listen to it you will be singing it for weeks. And, it's not a great song. Not at all.
3. Rehab, Amy Winehouse
So, my mother got me addicted to Amy Winehouse, who, however messed up, has so powerful pipes. Thanks mum.
4. Tattoo, Jordin Sparks
This is one of those songs that you really don't like admitting you listen to, but its good. She really is a good singer.
5. More Than Anyone, Gavin DeGraw
I have known this song for years, but i just bought it this week. I probably own it on CD, but I didn't feel like looking for it. It's quite delishhh.
6. Love Song, Sara Bareilles
You're probably sick of this song. I hear it everywhere. But its pretty good and makes me happy inside.
7. I Will Possess Your Heart, Death Cab for Cutie
This song is ridiculously long, and mostly vamp, but when you get to the part where they actually sing, its really good. So listen to it.
8. Fidelity, Regina Spektor
This in one of my new favorite artists. She has a beautiful voice and great lyrics.
9. Say, John Mayer
GIANT SMILES. I love John Mayer. This is a great song.
10. Prefects Are Hot, The Moaning Myrtles
MAJOR NERDOM, "Cedric Diggory is really hot, without his clothes." Having no life does have its benefits. Such as finding good music. That is about harry potter.
11.I'm Yours, Jason Mraz
A friend showed this to me. I want him. Excellent tunage.
12. Straight Lines, Dawn Landes
Lovely. Really meaningful with great lyrics.
13. On the Radio, Regina Spector
=] See above.
14. Geek in the Pink, Jason Mraz
Best. Song. In. The. World. Quite hilarious.
15. My Mom, Kimya Dawson
This is my favorite Kimya Dawson song. Even though its gruesome and sad. I think it may be the glockenspiel.
16.Yong Folks, Dawn Landes
This really fun to listen to. Its very folksy."

GAH
THAT IS SLIGHTLY EMBARASSING!
I mean "tunage"?
And "nerdom"
And pretending i knew something about music?
GAH

But I have decided to do a similar thing now.
I highly recommend the following songs (these are completely random, i am just going through my "recently played" on itunes)

1. Accio Deathly Hallows Hank Green
2. There's Always Someone Cooler than You Ben Folds
3. Dog Problems The Format
4. Into the Sunshine Julia Nunes
5. Snails The Format
6. 16 Military Wives The Decemberists
7. Songs About You Lena Gabrielle (the Butterbear Experience
8. Baltimore The Terrordactyls
9. What's a Girl to Do? Bat for Lashes
10. Robots Flight of the Conchords
11. Needle in the Hay Elliot Smith
12. She's Leaving Home The Beatles

Now, in a few months, I will look back on this and be embarrassed.
Oh well.

I hope everyone is having a lovely day.

GASFJASGAHH.
That is my mood right now.

I HAVE TRIED TO RIGHT THIS 3 TIMES AND EVERY TIME IT SUCKS!

The first time, I realized I had nothing to say.
The last time, I used the word mood 6 times in three sentences.

HSFJHFafkjhf.

10 things I did today

1. Read an entire book. I haven't done that in a very long time.
2. Went on a hike.
3. Found this article by John Green in my newspaper (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/16/AR2009041603510.html).
4. Emitted a very high pitched scream because i realized who the said article was by.
5. Spelled so many words wrong in this blog entry that almost the entire thing is underlined in red.
6. Climbed a very tall tree.
7. Ate a very tasty meal at a local coffee shop
8. Took a dailybooth picture with a plant (http://dailybooth.com/sophieeee19)
9. Drank a cup of tea.
10.Slacked off doing my homework.

I apologize for my lameness.

dresstalk

It is super sunny and nice out today.
I don't particularly like summer all that much, but days like these make me want school to be over and for summer to start.
Tomorrow i think some friends and I are going on a hike, which should be nice, if it doesn't rain.

Today i spent most of the days at the mall looking for a prom dress for my friend Jaime. She is the only one of my close friends who is going to Senior Prom with an actual date and we all are living vicariously through her. I am going to assist the photographer, but that doesn't involve the whole long dress/fancy hair/ limo deal, so its not the same.
But we spent a good four hours at the mall, going to every department store and trying on just about every prom dress there was. We finally found her one, and it is super pretty and nice and looks really good on her. She also got her ears pierced, which was a super big deal.
It was all super fun.

I also was looking for a dress for my photo-assisting job. I don't need to be quite as formal and impressive, and i fell in love with this dress:

I WANT IT SO BADDDDDDD!

Except one of my friends that had come with me was like, "it looks like mustardy throw-up."
And it is kinda expensive.
Any opinions?

Well, I have to go do some work for my mom. She is the vice president of the friends of the library, and they are hosting a fund raiser next weekend, and my mother enlisted me to make the program.
GAH!

My mother just came in singing Lady Gaga and dancing. I am slightly terrified.

Send me a message.
Friend me on the ning.
We should make plans on how we are going to do this.

LALALLALALAMOVINGON!

The other day, on a car ride home from New York City, began to list things that I wanted. I usually try to be a happy, grateful person, but it felt kinda good to just contemplate all the things that i wanted--big, small, important, dumb, long term, short term, reasonable, insane.
So I think I will attempt to recreate it.
But for right now.

1. A new ipod.
2. World peace.
3. A cup of tea
4. A computer with a battery that works.
5. To become a succssessful stage manager.
6. To become a better spell.
7. To be a better friend.

15. A vacation.
16. Friends that all make nice, smart choices.
17. More sleep.
18. Clean sheets on my bed.
19. To start painting again.
20. My summer job back.
21. Last summer back.
22. To be beautiful.
23. To have more money.
24. To spend more time outside.
25. To be in better shape.
26. A new camera.
27. A new notebook for precalc.
28. My precalc teacher to be my math teacher for the rest of my life.

30. A hair cut.
31. Love.

Okay.
Done with that now.

Off to bed.

I hate being a teenager

The first three definitions of "teenager" on urbandictionary.com are:

1.Something im not proud to be, because a lot of teenagers are quite simply put; idiots.
Im 17, and I look around and see all of these people (teenagers) moping around, I tell them that we live like kings and they shrug me off and tell me about how bad their life is because, for example, they got dumped.

Teenagers aren't mentally ready, or responsible for relationships. Love at first sight? No, lust at first sight my good gentlemen, there is a difference.

2.Someone who has everything but appreciates nothing.
Every teenager(including me, at times)

3.People who get no repect and are looked down upon because some of us are idiots.
Not all teenagers are bad, disrespectful, know-it-all, idiots. It's just a pathetic sterotype.

Teenagers suck basically.
And being a teenager sucks sometimes.

People say that these are the best days of our lives, but i just feel over-stressed and grumpy.

I could be deep and thoughtful here, but I am going on 4 hours of sleep and have three hours of homework.

My life sucks.

Continue normal teenage complaints.

Lovely Days are Lovely

GOOD EVENING!

For the first day back from spring break, I have had a ridiculously good day.

I was tired all day, but to the point where I was hyperactive (thank you MS word for correcting my grammar) and in a really good mood. It was lovely.

19 Reasons why today was a good day

  1. I had a really cool shirt to wear today, from what may be the best bookstore ever (http://www.strandbooks.com/).
  2. Even though it sucked to get up early again and go to school, it was nice to see my friends—most of whom I had not seen in a week and a half.
  3. In my world history class, the only class I am having troubles with (and by troubles, I mean I might not get an A) I found out I was getting an A for last quarter because I got a 100% on a test that I thought I had failed. =]
  4.  Because I got the top grade on the test, I got a candy bar. And it was delicious, not only because it was candy, but because of the sweet victory.
  5. I was moved into a new homeroom. This is very exciting for two reasons: it marks the beginning of my reign as Communications Vice President of the SGA at my school and I got to leave my old homeroom, which was mostly the preppy jock type people (who are lovely people, but they aren't my friends).
  6. My yearbook class, which has been a stress-fest for the last two weeks, was finally relaxed and fun again because we have submitted the book. We spent the class discussing the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus.
  7.  On the way home from school, my friend Katherine and I had an in-depth discussion of literature.
  8.  I had a good hair day.
  9.  I went through a bunch of mail that collages have sent me and I threw some of it away. (PURGE, SOPHIE, PURGE!)
  10.  I used the word catawampus in a conversation.
  11.  I took a lovely hour-long nap to make up for my lack of sleep last night.
  12.  When I woke up from said nap, my mother made me a lovely snack of apple slices and mango and wasn't grumpy.
  13.  My dinner was delicious.
  14.  I finally got back on dailybooth (http://dailybooth.com/sophieeee19)
  15.  I didn't spend too much time on facebook stalking people I don't actually care about.
  16.  I cleaned my room, and it is all organized and neat. Which is nice, because I rarely have a clean room
  17.  While cleaning my room, I found a ton of old purses I had forgotten I had.
  18.  Right now I am listening to the Format, which may be the best band ever. (http://www.myspace.com/theformat)
  19.  I might actually go to bed before midnight, which will be nice

Well, that is all.

Good night.

Sleep tight.

Don't let the bed bugs bite.

SOPHIE!

HELLO

It has come to my attention that members of my family may be reading this.

This slightly terrifies me.
Please go away.
Thank you.

JUSTTTT KIDDING!

mediocrity

I am a mediocre person.
That is what I have discovered today.
I lack a certain drive to make myself "unmediocre"

I just find I don't care about a lot of things.
I mean, I care, I just don't care enough.
Today I was running extremely late to meet my friends, but I found myself thinking, "They can wait; this blogtv show is way more important to me."
It wasn't really.

I also feel like I could be a great student, but I am just to lazy to put in the extra effort--I am stuck being just a good student. I get A's, but that is mostly because I am smart, and things come easily to me. I look around me sometimes in class, and I feel everyone else is trying so hard, and I am slacking off.

I could spend time with my friends, and be a great friend, but I would rather waste my time on the Internet. I mean, my friends tell me I am a good friend, but I feel like my friendships are missing something. Everyone else seems to always have something to talk about--they always have inside jokes and memories of good times. I love my friends and I love being around people, but a lot of the time i just don't feel like putting in the effort to have "great times," and I am stuck with "good times."

I could also spend time and think about things that actually mattered and make this blog actually interesting.

Ice pops

HELLO!

IT IS VERY LATE AT NIGHT AND I FORGOT TO WRITE THIS

(11:11, make a wish)

Hmmm. today i did absolutely nothing of importance.
except study for some competitive environmental science test

and create this fantastic work of art

THAT, my friends (or Internet acquaintances) is high fashion.

Katie is reading this over my shoulder and it is making me very paranoid.
I hate people who read over my shoulder.
(well...i hate people who type in front of me.)
I want to kill them brutally as they sleep.
(well......i want to...throw them off a cliff)

Well in other news, I found my camera connector cable thingamajig and i have uploaded a bunch of pictures from the last 3287492387401 years.

So enjoy.

And by 328749238740 years, I mean 3 months.

The lovely Katie and me pre-dance.

My school theater group went to NYC last month to see The 39 Steps; it was very enjoyable.

I then proceeded to Washington, D.C. for a Model UN conference.

My fifth-place winning food sculpture.
His name is charlie.

And then yesterday, we went down to the city to support the Oriels on opening day.
AND THEY WON!

YIPEE!

Well, Katie and I are off to enjoy a night of sleeping.
and eating ice pops.
and playing wii
and having the hiccups.
Apparently.

Fail

Hello again, dear internet users.

I really suck at blogging. I was reading other peoples blogs, and they just have so much more to say. My life is pretty boring.

Today I spent most of the day sleeping, and I went to a baseball game.

I suppose that was interesting, but not much happened.
Just a lot of drunk people.
Lots and lots of drunk people.
Drunk old people.
Drunk mean people.
Drunk people who looked like my chemistry teacher.
Drunk people dancing.
Drunk people falling over.
Drunk people singing.

It was lots of fun, in a I-am-disgusted-with-the-state-of-the-world sort of way.

Gah.
I need to become a better typer.
This has taken way to long to type.
And it is really frustrating me.

I am upset with my life.
This is making me feel like a failure.
Grr.

I think i could be a professional procrastinator.

Like, really.
It is the fifth of April, and I have decided to start Blog Every Day April.

Five days late.

I disgust myself.
And the sad thing is that i want to do something with my life that involves incredible organization and timeliness.
Perhaps it is time for me the re-think my future.

Or my time management skills.
And helpful ideas?

So this whole BEDA thing, I have never really blogged before.
I mean i have tried but it never quite works out.
I forget.
Or i have other things to do.
Or i just decide to be lame.

SO HERE WE ARE!
THIS WILL WORK!
REALLY!
IT WILL!

I think I over-encouraging myself.

Well.
Ta-ta.
